Hi Wedi

thanks for sharing the sad news.

We keep saying 'Good Bye' to many of our batch mates on a regular basis since of late.

We have not met Chandra for some time since our batch reunions but have always found her to be a very friendly reliable and everhelpful colleague.

We can only share our sincere thoughts with her surviving family at this time of their great grief and loss.

Please convey our deepest sympathies.

May she attain the eternal bliss of Nibhbhana.

Nana

Dear Friends,

Sad to let you all know that our  dear friend Chandra passed away yesterday.

She was in terminal renal failure for years and was offered HD two years ago but refused. Still she had a good quality of life managing well at home with breathlessness off and on especially when she defaulted on her  erythropoetin. She was determined to be independent and flatly refused to have a care giver or even a live-in helper (which is unusual in SL)!

She was very well looked after  by her devoted husband and son who lived with them. So life was good, though homebound (as we all were this past year), the highlights being when her grandson visited - almost daily before lockdown.

She had a goodlife & good death - sudden, quick & pain free (high K?)

with her husband at her side. So a lot to be thankful for.

I'm so glad she joined one of our zoom meetings recently.

As Suji pointed out she is the first in our Group of 15 to go...

She did a great service for SL as the Director of the Anti-TB campaign, very devoted & committed to the cause - and "made a difference".

An outstanding quality is that she was always cheerful whatever problems life brought her way. She was able to "laugh it off"! I've never heard her grumble or complain! Lets always remember her that way!

Nalini

PS - Her husband Francis'  e-mail is on this list.

A note by Philip G Veerasingam

Just a thought on some of our batch-mates who became Directors of campaigns in the Department of Health, Sri Lanka :-

1. Chandra Pitigala - Director of the anti-TB  campaign.

2. Lalith Mendis - Director Medical Supplies Division.

3. Harriet Munasinghe - Director anti- Filaria campaign

4. Sankaranarayane - Director Mental Health Services
