Punya Heendeniya - Wife of Milroy De Silva
It was after our internship year in the post 1966 years. I was DMO at Koslanda, Milroy had been appointed DMO Moneragala and had moved in with his newly married wife Punya to the DMO quarters in Moneragala. Somadasa Kongahawita had been appointed DMO Maha Oya. Soma had bought some fresh crabs and gone with the culinary delicacy, to pay a visit to Milroy and his wife. The crabs were alive and Soma had thought, that the crabs when cooked would tickle the taste buds of the newly married couple. Two weeks later Soma had paid another visit and inquired about the crab curry. He was told that Punya and her mother did not have the heart to cook the crabs which were alive. They had kept on feeding the crabs till they died a natural death and were disposed of. Soma had a hearty laugh when he related this incident to me decades later.
