Hiranthi, Shanya(dec), Suren, Anoushka, Chantal and I have lost a wonderful friend, who was a second Mum to my children.
We were at Vijita and Anu's home last October and Anu brought out their collection of DVDs to entertain Suren and which all of us enjoyed and laughed about together.
We watched old favourites such as Porridge, Open all Hours, To the Manor Born, The Good Life, Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister, As Time Goes By and many many others, and we were all so happy together.
Anu's understanding and compassion in any situation was always evident.
Suddenly now in a flash that has been taken away from us with Anu's passing.
We were shattered by the news and still are.
We could not believe that she had suffered a massive Cerebral Haemorrhage and succumbed to it.
We could understand and feel the sorrow and sadness and loss Vijita, and his children and grand children are experiencing, because she was so much a part of all our lives, and was absolutely "family".
I have known Vijita almost all my life and Anu since we joined the Medical Faculty in 1960.
I had met her at School Spelling Bee competitions and Do You Know competitions, but our deeper friendship was forged through Music.
We played in the Ceylon Symphony Orchestra as it was then called, we played Quartet and Chamber music, encouraged by the late Prof Earle De Fonseka, and it has been and is a pleasure and privilege to have Anu and Vijita as friends.
Over the years we have travelled to many countries together to enjoy Music and Concerts and Operas, and also to share a very special and genuine friendship.
We have shared each others joys and sorrows, and I am deeply grateful to Anu for all that she has done for me and my family.
It is almost impossible to say goodbye, but we will cherish the memories, and remember a wise and wonderful, caring and kind and gentle woman, who treated everyone equally and tried to make the world a much better place for anyone in need.
May She Rest in Eternal Peace.
