In the early 1960s while I was a
Medical Student at the Medical Faculty, studies were timed for 3 months before each
exam. The earlier months were spent attending lectures. During this time,
cinema shows, school fairs, plays staged at the Lionel Wendt, Tower Hall etc, sports
and long walks filled a medico’s life. There was a 'hi-fi' crowd which patronized
a ‘Society of Arts’ where western classical music was performed. One day there
was a big notice in the lobby which invited students to attend a performance of
western classical music. It stated
The Society of Arts
Invites you
For a performance of
…………
…………
At the KG Hall on
………… at ………..
The next morning some wag had added an
F in front of the word Arts, producing a lot of hilarity
among the medicos who passed the lobby. The notice disappeared by evening.
