Death of Rassmuthaiah

Sad News Of Our Batch Mate Rasamuttiah's Death

Dear All,
I am unsure if you have already heard the sad news of Rasa’s death. His partner Betty whom many of you would have met passed away a few weeks previously. It has been a difficult time for his step sons arranging 2 funerals one after another. Rasieka Jayatunga & colleagues form SLMA are helping. I am sending information I have received from Punchi. Sati Ariyanayagam has also been in touch re the donations & I will circulate that e- mail separately. Ras was such an active person in the SLMA & the Sri Lankan Psychiatric Association. He was a dear friend & an honourable man. Sidney & I will be at the funeral on the 13th.
Hope you are well.
Love & Best wishes
Pearl

Dear Pearl

Thanks Pearl for sharing the sad news of the death of Rasamuththiah.
I have tried quite a few of our batch mates since I first received the police notice, but got very few details of the sad circumstances leading to his death.
Very recently, Anula (Nikapota )told me that she had attended Betty's funeral and they were awaiting the details about Rasa' S funeral arrangements.

Rasa was with me at Bloem and had been in touch with us for many years but not in the last few years.

I am pleased to hear Raseika & her colleagues are offering their much needed support.

Rasa was a very friendly, helpful and a sociable colleague and he would be sadly missed.

Best wishes

Hi Philip

Just to share the very sad news of one of our batch mates who passed away peacefully.

Vernon was a very sincere and a helpful colleague who continued to remain in the motherland to serve the sick.  He was very caring and attended to the health needs of the local community with dignity and with humility.

We can offer our deepest sympathies to his surviving family members.

I am copying the obituary notice which appears in the Daily News of 13.05.2013.

Hello Philip,
It was good of you to have attended Sankars wedding. He looks well.I remember his eldest being delivered at GH,Batti by Sinnathamby the Gen Surgeon as the VOG was off. The foetus was in distress and Sinna delivered the baby with one incision going through the abdominal wall as well as the uterus!. It probably holds the record for the fastest CS still. Mallika was transferred from Pottuvil where sankar was the Medical Officer in charge.I met him briefly at our reunion, but he left early and I could not have a good chat with him.If you happen to have his em address or tel no:
can I have them please.
Sara

Hello Sara,
Sankar has no email address. He is computer illiterate. His Telephone No is 0332224301. He is working as Director in a private nursing home at Chilaw and comes home only on week ends. Mallika is always at home in Bandarawaththe, Gampaha.

Dear Philip,
Over the weekend we heard the sad news that our dear friend Murgananthan passed away in early June after a short illness. He was fit & well & had a routine blood screen in April when he was diagnosed with Acute Leukaemia. Was treated in London & died on 7th June. I have spoken to his daughter Niro today & they are having an almsgiving in Ealing London on Sunday 8th July. Sidney & I will be attending.
I will forward all contact details later today as I was unable to speak to Muru's wife Thiraviam.
Niro was happy for the batch to be notified. We are sad we didn't hear of it earlier so that we could have attended his funeral to pay our respect.
Kind Regards
Pearl

With the President Dr. Angela Arulpiragasam.
The Consultant Paediatrician and the

I was invited by the Batticaloa Medical Association as their Chief Guest for their annual sessions held on 3rd, 4th and the 5th of August 2012. I was to give the opening address and another talk on 'Being a clinician'. I chose as my topic for the Chief Guests Address 'The Call of Duty'. It was a very enjoyable time and the hospitality of my hosts had no bounds. I am attaching some of the pictures taken there.

'Sena' did his internship in Kandy and progressed to General Practice in Polonnaruwa. Went to the UK and qualified in Psychiatry. Was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist Kurunegala. He thought it was a better life in the University Peradeniya in the Medical Faculty as it was closer home. He emigrated to Australia and is still in active practice as Psychiatrist in Australia. Seeing the photo I took when he visited me in Oct 2012 he has not changed much. The same grin is still there. His better half has the ever smiling face.
